Grenfell Labrador Newfoundland Silk Stocking Hooked Rug Animal Mat 16x14" AS IS
This listing is for a Grenfell Labrador Newfoundland made with Silk Stocking Hooked Rug on Burlap With Animal Subject ( Dog ? Cow ) measuring about 16 1/4 inches by 14 3/8 inches , weighing 256 grams net overall. I have not tested the knotting but I think its all Shredded silk stocking. The foundation is burlap. Looks to be an experimental piece made by someone that was not a good designer or followed a not very good design. It Could be that the weaver played by ear and just came up with design as she went along and tried to draw a dog in her mind as she hooked. It could be that she did not use an example and hooked as she went along. If you have seen another one like it, let me know. In antique as shown condition , with yellowish stains as shown. It has not been washed while in my possession. I think a proper wash would get most of stains out. Not sure what the source of stains are.. It will be kept two folded and shipped two folded or rolled. It is a resilient piece and doing so will not harm it.
