This beautiful Oriental rug is an antique 2'8" x 11'9" Persian Sarouk floor runner, circa 1930s. This hand knotted runner is made with 100% wool, has a full pile and is in perfect condition. Sarouk (Sarough/Sarouq) is a village located in the province of Markazi in central Persia. The rugs made here are well known and are designed with either geometric or curvilinear patterns. Sarouk rugs are built on a cotton foundation with good quality wool cut to a medium length making up the pile. The original older, and most expensive rugs, are hard woven with top quality lustrous wool which is cut very short. Color is made up from strong red, blue, burnt orange, black, ivory or champagne. Knot counts range on average from about 120 KPSI to 450 KPSI. Sarouk rugs are in great demand both in Persia and through export to Western and European countries.
